I have a question... had the old lady any witness? Otherwise it would stand just one word against another and in this situation there shouldnt be any court that says "ok its his fault" Even they called son and father or brother... they came afterwards and didnt saw what happend.
So i m just thinking why he had to pay?

I still help people, but not before i asked somebody else to be my witness... at least i would call the ambulance or somebody else (if they would understand me)

GUEST567,

The report did say if the old lady had any witness. The man wanted to end this up so she paid the money. He was wrong. If he believed he was no wrong, he shouldn't have paid the money.

GUEST567 "One passer-by reminded Li that the old lady just set him up and that he should go away"
The only thing that i could read if the old lady had any witness...
Even the "passer-by" said that the old lady just set him up.
But you are right, if he believed that he was right... he shouldnt have paid or helped her then at all.
I like to help people, but as soon as somebody does something bad to me i would let them fall..

GUESTSHERRY I was a Chinese and I live in Australia right now. Honestly, if the same thing happens, I'll probably just call the police in a place where no one can find me. Otherwise, what can I do if they sue me and the judge says "if you did not hit the old lady, why did you help her or why did you call the police?" I know this is really selfish and cold-hearted, but Pengyu's case left us no choice. We don't have 40,000 RMB to pay for something that is not our fault. The judge of Pengyu's and other similar cases should go to hell. It left such bad effects on so many kind people. No one wanna be a good person anymore.
