When visiting a foreign city, carry a matchbook or postcard with the name and address of your hotel, which you can show to taxi drivers or when asking directions.

You may also use google map to know the road and approximate distance. Try to get background info of that city.

My hotel send me an e-mail in which was my hotel name and adddress in Chinese just to print it and use it there.
