Hello,

I am planning a trip to China from April 28 to May 9. I understand this
is a holiday week in china. Will train travel be difficult? I want to
go from Beijing to Yunnan to Guangxi then leave from Shanghai. Should I
postpone my trip? I could go in early august instead.

Thanks,

mh

I would suggest u postpone ur trip. The time u chose is obviously a peak one though the weather is pretty good. In August it is very hot and rains a lot! U got to balance it!

Hmm... I live in Japan. Is the heat in China similar to that of Japan. I imagine it will be the same.

In May do the train tickets sell out in advance?

Its 12 days. I dont need to see shanghai, just fly away from it. I can cut out guangxi if necessary but would rather not. I will consider flights, but my question about ticket availablity / general experience during that week... can you give me a clearer picture of what I am in for? Its also a holiday in japan, so I am in for crowds either way. (But maybe japanese crowds will be easier to negotiate since it is familiar... I dunno. Maybe I should just stay home.)

Hard to imagine traveling during the May 1st holiday. You'll see no attractions except crowds of people. Tickets will be difficult to obtain as well as the hotel rooms.

For me, I'll never try this. I'm afraid that I'll be pressed to be a piece of paper since I'm already so thin.

All in all I strongly suggest you avoid the Golden week travel.
