梅菜 扣肉

My wife has brought some of this for us to eat. The photo on the box shows it cooked with fatty pork and she says it is usually steamed together.
I have not used it before or even know what it is, can anyone offer me some advice and maybe recipes?

Dear Dave,

Here is a video about cooking 梅菜扣肉. I am not sure if you can understand what they are talking about because they are Chinese.

Do not worry. I just got a recipe.

Materials: dry preserved vegetable (干梅菜) and fatty pork.

Ingredients: shallot, ginger, garlic, cooking wine, star anise, salt and sugar.

Step 1 boil fatty pork in water for 20 minutes together with shallot and ginger. Do not forget to add some cooking wine.

Step 2 Take boiled fatty pork out and spread soy sauce on the surface and fry it in a pan until it turns into brown.

Step 3 Soak dry preserved vegetable (干梅菜) in warm water for 10 minutes. Then fry it about 1 minute. Remember to add sugar, cooking wine and soy sauce.

Step 4 Cut boiled fatty pork into slices, spread some salt and put fried preserved vegetable on it. Then put garlic and star anise in and steam for around 40 minutes.

PS: if you think it is too greasy, you can eat it like eating hamburger, putting it inside the steamed bun and then eat it.
