Voting without time limit Note: Guest voter(s) are not displayed here. Beijing intends to impose a congestion charge on the drivers. If you drive your car on certain roads during rush hours, you need to pay the “congestion charge”. Except the “congestion charge”, it is advised to raise the parking fee, for example, raising from 2 yuan to 15 yuan per hour. Will these two suggestions work effectively?

London UK has had a congestion charge for the centre since 2007 and now costs 8GBP (80 yuan) per day to enter that zone (unless you live there). I believe that it is controlled by number plate recognition cameras. In my travels I have also seen other systems. In Jakarta at peak periods there must be more than one person in each car. In other cities they might have alternate days when licence plates end with an even number can travel one day and odd numbers the next say. I guess the system chosen depends on if the authority wishes to restict congestion or raise revenue.

But it doesn't help reduce traffic jam. Those who can afford to buy a car generally also can raise their cars. They can pay for the highly priced oil. Do you think they are incapable of paying for congestion charge? If possible, those who drive cars should also be charged with enviromental pollution charge. I do hope the authorities can invest thest money in infrastructure development like subway and road construction and road rebuilding. |

enviromental pollution charge? Great idea, jimmyb. Those who pollute the environment should be responsible for what they have done. I think we need to enhance our public transport construction and encourage more people to use public transport means like bus, subway etc.

Beijing has regulated that the parking fee will be caculated every 15 minutes inside of the 5th ring road, aming to decrease the number of cars. I am not sure if it will take effect. You may not know the situation in Guanghzou. During Asian Games, the government had adopted some serious measures to cope with traffic jam issues. It worked. But what happended after the Asian Games? Traffic jam appears again.
