Gaily decorated lanterns will be displayed in eight areas under different themes. 2012 is the year of Dragon. The Chinese dragon culture and other ‘dragon elements’ will be displayed in the dragon themed area. Meanwhile, some folk artists will be invited to peform during the Lantern Festival. Tourist will enjoy Qinqiang Opera, shadow puppet show, dance shows of the Tang Dynasty and other folk performances from Jan.16 to Feb. 21. Ticket prices: CNY 60 from Jan. 16 to Feb. 3 and Feb. 8 to 21 CNY 80 from Feb. 4 to 7 The elderly above 65, students, soldiers and the disabled with valid documents enjoy 50 percent discounts. So do the children from 1.2 m to 1.4 m. PS: the Lantern Festival will be closed at 22:00 from Jan. 16 to Feb. 21. The opening hours might extend if there are too many visitors.

Thanks for your useful information on this Lantern Festival. On CNY 2011, I did visit Xian and wanted to tour around this festival, however, it was so crowded at the entrances, thus, I decided to call off my plan.

This month I will be going there again, and with your precious info, I should not miss it again, will ensure to be there early so that can squeeze my way in.

By the way, are there any other 'new' tourist attractions around Xian recently?

Would like to visit if there is any.

My friends and I climbed on the City Wall before 17:00 at the West Gate. Then we walked to the South Gate to enjoy the lantern festival. Well, we might meet at the City Wall this year because I am planning to go there too. New attractions? Did you already visit all tourist attractions in Xian?
