Well, I can speak only for myself, of course.

I think that to learn language there are two important things: vocabulary and understanding how "the language works", You know, how to use the words.

The sentences given can be compeletely irrational, it is enough to learn words and slowly to understand how I can form understandable sentences. Google translator does not form very good sentences, says my wife...

Also I think to understand the grammatical sense is important. And of course the possibility to hear and repeat the sentences is fine.
