Voting without time limit Note: Guest voter(s) are not displayed here. In fact, I have been traveling almost every year since I started working. I do not earn a high salary. Thus, my budge is 200-500 USD per year. I am curious that how much you spend on travel per year.

Sometimes I travel to China twice a month, sometimes I travel alone and at times travel with friends. By booking rooms online, I receive some payments back from online operators. With the advent of AirAsia, from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou (round trip) sometimes I need to pay only about RMB500 (cheaper than China domestic flights). It's good to plan early and well. Wan

I lived all over which has been a very important positive in my life! from perth, australia to the US to Asia and europe I've seen many different things in my years. a lot of travels were business related but equally as many were just for pleasure! then I sort of settled for a while before the travel bug bit me again in 09 its at that time that I discovered China and it really opened up a whole new horizon of travelling for me I haven't looked back since and try to make it back there at least once a year! this year I've been saving up no travels so far at all cause it will be very busy indeed going forward haha I'm going to ukraine/poland to watch the euro 2012 championships with friends and family and afterwards I'll be heading to the summer olympics (yes I love sports! haha) towards the end of the year its back to China probably celebrate christmas and new years over there! so yes I'll be a busy beaver for the rest of the year! haha

Wan, You really know how to save money. Did you ever calculate how much you spend on your China trip every year?

Mark, you really have a busy year. It seems that you needn't care about the cost. Are you a businessman? I usually save money to travel. I probably travel once or twice per year. Currently, my destinations are all located in mainland China. If I want to visit some place abroad, I have to save all my salary and wait for at least 1 or 2 years.

Not much to calculate how much I spend every year, especially to China as most of the time either friends or certain organisation footed the bills. In 2010 Oct for example I went to BFSU to see Prof Wu Zong Yu and being paid by a Malaysian public university (also to meet a friend who held a Malay Study Chair). Wan

Wan, you are so lucky and I am jealous of you. I have to burden all the costs on my own.

| I think you still can travel if you can bring along some friends with you, at least for twin sharing, each will share the cost of the room (at least). To travel cheap you need to plan, and provide a tentative itinerary for your friends to see. For example when I wrote in my facebook that Dec 1-8 I will be going to HK, SZ and GZ, a few friends would ask how much for the fullboard trip...etc. From there you can make a little bit of profit, to cover some parts of your travel expenses. | Sunnydream, from their inquiries, we may highlight the Peak in HK, delicious dim sum in Wan Chai, Avenue of Stars.. a day trip, then Window of the World in Nanshan, Uncle Cafe in GZ for its authentic biryani of Northern Indian cuisine, interesting stretched noodles (la mian), Huaqiang Bei electronic market (SZ) and New Asia near Xidi 2 Malu (GZ), waking street shopping malls of Dongmen (SZ), Shangxiajiu (GZ), Beijing Lu (GZ), etc. Of course these are for Malaysians, haha. | sunnydream: Yes I've been very lucky to say the least I'm quite business savy I studied advertising back in perth and I've used all those tools for my own career. although I've had quite a few setbacks too. definitely hasn't been an easy one-way ride! but I've got like they say rhinoceros skin I'm a very strong person and I believe when you have a lemon you make lemonade each time and keep on going forward get back up with each blow to use a boxing term. wanhu: great thoughts there! yes sharing travels with friends is one of the best things you can do. you can share the costs but most importantly share the experiences together too! traveling alone is just no fun at least not for me |
