It seems that going to school is still not an easy thing in China. Look at the picture. This was the register site for will-be pupils in Hangzhou. These parents were waiting to nab a seat for their kids once the register begun. The same thing happened in Beijing, where some parents even waited for 9 days; in Shenzhen, where a mother and her daughter knelt for about one hour to “beg” a seat; in Ningbo, in Kunming… How terrible! While the primary schooling has been one part of compulsory education, how could it be so difficult to get a seat in the classroom?

The Education Department and the school authority never make a homework how many students they expect? If the classrooms and chairs are not enough, accept certain number of students In my locality, parents are required or advised to register their children at the nearest school by September. In early December parents may inquire either from the State Education Depart or the School if their children are accepted to study at the school they have applied. Registration for new school term will be in the first week of January.

China has the similar policy. But many parents want their kids to be educated very well. Thus, they do everything to put their kids in the key schools. As you can imagine, the tuition of those key schools are higher than that of those ordinary schools.

All parents want their kids to receive the best education. Key schools have excellent teachers. Thus, kids can receive better education. Moreoever, students from key schools have better chance to enter top universities. Graduates from top universities can get better jobs and good payment.

It's like business, more demands more supplies. If the authority knows about the demands of good education, good place, they should prepare to meet the demands but with meritocracy.

You are so lucky since there is no difference between schools in your country. In China, education differs from the very beginning, let's say, from kindergarten. If parents want their kids to be well-educated, they have to pay much more for a seat from a good school. The scores of the college entrance examination has been released on 25th June, I believe many parents are struggling for a better future for their children now.

It's easy to estimate the quality of education in China. Ask some college students what they have learnt in college. I guess that many of them will hesitate and do not know what to say. Some might tell you "Playing computer games".

Public vernacular schools are run by the government, with same curriculum standards and have 3 major examinations in secondary school and one major examination in primary school. Teachers with diligence and enthusiast provide better results. There are boarding schools for those who excel in their studies. The secondary school students will undergo the same examination, and their result of the School Certificate Examination will determine their entrance to public universities. Not so good result, will opt for private universities or private colleges.
