True enough... but that could break the bank.
How much per envelope... I am but a poor teacher.

It's not a good idea to give them red envelopes. I haven't heard that teachers give red envelopes to their students. He must be kidding.

Some candies or small gifts from your country are ok. They are just kids. I remember that my college foreign teacher gave each of us a pair of socks though it isn't Xmas day. But we did feel happy.

Thank you for you reply. I am new at the Chinese traditions and I really wanted to thank these students for their hard work. Again, thanks

Sorry, I am not a guest... just didn't log in. :)

A few pencils in a case will do, which I think around 5 yuan each. I hope these won't break your bank. It's a thought that counts.

GUEST45163 Thank you. I bought a great big container of chocolate and some individual meat packs and that solved the mystery... but pencils will do for next year... It was the thought that counted. They were so happy to get the items from me that one of my students gave me the hand painted set of Door announcements (they announce the new year around your door) that he and I painted at a block party two days before. Dumplings, whun dwun and my picture in the paper-- these door posters make my new year complete and I only hope I could give a little back.
