You should be thankful that you're lucky to have a good life, good health, compared with others in the hospital, who can't even walk or bedridden for life. When we think this way, then we won't be sorrow.

Yes, Wan. Life is full of surprises. Sometimes you feel happy about the surprises, sometimes you don't. Anyway, you must learn to adjust yourself when you are "surprised".

The first time I went to China was in 2004 through HK. Arriving Huanggang kou'an I was surprised no one spoke English except a few young students. I was surprised too, when they were ever willing to assist. Now another surprise, I can buy train tickets, ride a bus in both Shenzhen and Guangzhou without any assistance.

Wan,

Do you speak English or Chinese when buying the tickets? Or can you buy the tickets on the ATM at the railway station?

Dearest Cherry, I may not be able to speak Putonghua, but being to China for more than 60 times, I think I will manage to speak some simple words to order food, to ask way, to buy tickets, to hail a cab, etc. Only younger generation speaks English (in China) that frequents many fast food outlets.

For subway and buses in GZ. SZ and HK I use the travel cards which is cheaper. Octopus card in HK provides almost 50% discount for a bus ride. Usually from HK airport to Shenzhen I don't need to speak Chinese at all. Just take bus A43 and stop at Sheung Shui and one stop train ride to Lowu and then walk to Luohu Kou'an that costs me less than HKD20 instead of paying HKD150 by taxi.

Ok, you are an experienced traveler after having been to China so many times. When buying tickets, you don't have to speak to them. Just write the train number on a paper and then give it to the ticket seller. They will know which train you are going to take.

No need to write dearest Cherry. If from Shenzhen to Guangzhou, I just tell the ticketing assistant either Guangzhou dong zhan or Guangzhou zhan. There are only two stations, either Guangzhou East Station or Guangzhou Station. But then I need to know the direction, East, South, West and North. After all, I am staying in Jinjiang Bei in Kuala Lumpur.

Haha, assistant is not volunteer. I'm using the word I know best, instead of attendant which sometimes people feel with distaste.

Wan,

Are they ticket scalpers? I think you can easily get the tickets. Just ask your Chinese friends to buy it online. It's very convenient.
