Unless you really want or need to splurge on a driver and vehicle, I would suggest that you take a taxi to Beijing South train station, take a C train Beijing South -- Tanggu, then another taxi to the cruise port.
If you've any more queries, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username in the subject line, thanks.

The raw ticket cost for a C train from Beijing South to Tanggu would be 77/92 RMB for 2nd/1st-class seat, one-way.
For accommodation, there're too many hotels in Beijing to list for you! You need to be more specific. What price range are you looking for? When are you staying?

GUEST16135 We will be sailing into the port of Xingang by cruise ship. Our ship arrives at 7:30am and leaves at 7:00pm. That is 0730 to 1900. We've been advised that there is a private tour available that meets the ship in the morning and drives to the Great Wall. Then, tour goes to Tiannamin Square. The, back to the ship. Is this possible to do in one day in the time allotted? Thank you.

Yes, possible. You could also organise your own driver and vehicle so that you don't have to hang around waiting for others in your group.

GUEST27032 We will be disembarking the cruise ship at this port on March 29. Is there a train that goes directly to downtown Beijing without transfering along the route? Are there escalators or elevators in the train stations as we will each have 2 pieces of luggage. What is the cost for the tax from port to train station and the cost of train? How often do the trains run between Xingang and Beijing? Thank you for your assistance.

Yes, there're direct trains from Tanggu (train station nearest to the cruise terminal) to Beijing South train station, no need to change trains.
Not sure about escalators/lifts in the train stations, sorry.
Cost of tax? I presume you meant taxi. I would estimate about 20-25 RMB from the cruise terminal to Tanggu train station.
One-way ticket would be 58/69 RMB in 2nd/1st-class for the C trains.
There're 5 C trains daily, departures at 0829, 1214, 1344, 1814 and 1959.

GUEST45243 I noted your question from 2007. and hope you can now provide answers . I am arriving at Tianjin by ship in two weeks. I wish to travel by bullet train to Beijing and return. Can you please advise how far from where the ship will dock is the rail station, name of station, best method to get there (ie walk, taxi, bus etc).
Is it easy to get local currency at the port in order to pay for taxi or rail ticket? Please also advise name and location of rail station in Beijing where the bullet train stops.

Many thanks.
Charles

Is it easy to get lo...

The port is quite large and I don’t know where you will land. Maybe you could take bus no. Bianmin 9 (便民9) from the Binhai district government (滨海新区政府) to Tianjin Railway Station (天津火车站). Or make it easy, take a taxi. Since these two places are far from each other, the taxi fee is a little expensive, about rmb150.

There are indeed the currency exchange sites at the port. But just as I have said, the port is quite large and it is not easy to find it. Maybe you could exchange some at your home country and then get more RMB in Tianjin or Beijing city after arrival. The bullet train from Tianjin Railway station arrives at Beijing South Railway Station.
