I'm an English teacher (from the USA) currently teaching in Thailand, the land of smiles---another friendly place in Asia. I will be making my first trip to China in September, and have selected Xiamen for that first visit. When I was beginning to research places to stay (such as hotels, guesthouses, etc), I suddenly had a brilliant idea: why not try to find someone in Xiamen who would like to do a homestay exchange? In other words, I could stay with some kind soul in Xiamen and in return, offer my home just outside Bangkok as a homestay someday in the future. Other details could be worked out, but the main result would be a more personal (less touristy?) experience for both of us in our respective cities. If anyone is interested, please email me at care2.com\|mettametta. My travel dates are September 7 - 15, 2005. And if you're not interested in the homestay exchange but know of a nice well-located guesthouse to stay in, please let me know, since I may not get any takers on my homestay proposal and would still be looking for something other than a hotel for accomodation.
