I'm planning a long weekend trip to the Gobi Desert. What's the best city/airport to fly into? I'm open about where I go, but I like history and scenery more than museums. Any tips, advice, or anything else deeply appreciated!

Or even going to the desert from Lanzhou... Suggestions?
