Three Weeks in China Itinerary
Dec 27, 2017 14:05
guestJayVee I'm planning a roughly three week trip to China in early April. Never been to China! Its too hard to choose which places to visit! I'm most excited for Sichuan, and would like to soak that up as much as possible. Is this too much to do in three weeks? I could see leaving HK as another future stop for a future trip to Asia, but it seems dumb to miss all that good food!

Beijing
Pingyao (optional)
Xi’an
Chengdu
Jiuzhaigou Natl Park (closed from earthquake?)
Chongqing (optional)
Zhangjiajie Natl Park (optional)
Guilin/Li River/Yangshou
Hong Kong (optional)
Shanghai

China is the place to see how so many people crowd into so few large cities, how such an ancient country looks so brand new, and how the same people live so differently from the north to the south, from city to the countryside. If I were you, I would pick a city at random and fly in to stay a couple of days. If I liked it, I would stay a few more days. Otherwise, move onto another one.

GUEST24164 thanks for the advice. I just worry that if I don't plan out a somewhat structured travel itinerary, 1.3billion people might take my train tickets and plane tickets :)

China is a vast country with diversified climate, dialect, cuizine, customs, etc. Staying in one city gives you a glimpse of that city only. But doing all those cities you listed above would be a tough task as you would be travelling all day long on the road and see nothing but the highway.
I don't quite understand your worries. Are you bothered about the safety?
The population is big and the cities are crowded but generally speaking, the country is safe. You need to take reasonable precautions though as you do when travelling in any other countries around the world. Stay away from deserted streets or lanes, travel with a companion, do not come out and roam the cities in the night ...

I think he/she is worried about the availability of train and flight tickets.

Oh, I see. Thanks.

Unless he/she comes during holidays like National Day or the New Years Day, the tickets won't be any problem.
