In a country with such a prolonged feudality, and agriculture has been crucial to this country, over 80% of the population are farmers - they are comparatively less-educated. Men are physically stronger and good at farm work, and the tradition tells people only sons 'parent' their parents when their parents get old, daughters usually do not have the obligation. So the result is people prefer sons - work hard, take care of them when they are old and the most important of all - pass down the family. I have the experience in rural areas, when people get a girls, they felt humiliated and try to keep quiet, well, if they have sons, they announce to the whole village. It is definitely loss to have girls, so girls can hardly get any education, they help their parents do farm work or take care of their baby brothers, etc. Not all people are so luck to get a boy in life, they may have a lot of children secretly, all girls. So, you may guess what might happen to some not so luck girls as their parents.

"This problem (abortion) is not only happened in China. Other western country also face this kind of problem." But not that easy to do and massive as it is in China. This abortion popularity is not only because of the One-Child-Policy. It is also because of the lack of sexual education - and im not talking about the countryside somewhere locked up behind some mountains....Im talking about the city-youth. I always hear soandso was or is going to the hospital. Than I ask why? Is she ill? - The answer is no, just pregnant......... (recently the answer is also beauty operation...but abortion is still ahead of it) So why didnt they use some protection?????? Last time right on a corner building at JiefangBei there was a Condom-ATM, so to say, and I was told just a few years ago you would not have found that somewhere in public. I would call this a step ahead, but where is the use of it if people still think those are funny coloured balloons because sexual education is not common in schools, I heard. So what did you do in Biology class? Talk about the bees and the flowers?

RITA said that 80% of the population are farmers, and very uneducated. I don't think they made it to biology class.
