Hi,

I will be travelling to Beijing in september.. I will be visiting the great wall, the forbbiden city, the temple of heaven and the summer palace... And I would also like to shop... I will like to shop for clothes, shoes and little chinese souvenir items for friends and family back home. Where should I go shop for the above mentionned items??

Also, do you think 3 days is too little to do all the sightseeings (badaling great wall, forbbiden city, temple of heaven, summer palace)?? Have I missed any other places worth visiting??

Thanks.

I recommend Xiushui market and Yansha, Xiushui is famous for the fake world renowned brands if you do not mind :).

Three days are fine to cover the places you mentioned, -- a little bit rush :)

California knows more about this I think.

Firstly,thank you Rita very much!
To KANATO:if you want to shop in beijing, the best places for foreigner:
1.Pearl Market/Hong Qiao Market:it is in the opposite of the east gate of the Heaven Temple. You can buy the pearls and clothes, very cheap!
2.Ya Xiu clothing Market:Near San Li Tun,and you can buy many kind of clothes and traditional industrial arts of china!
3.Xiu Shui Market:it is the most famous before, but now,the old market was backout, and the new was opened in this year,it is more expensive than the others.
Btw,all the market you can bargain and bargain......

3 days is possible to see those sights, but you won't have enough time to really appreciate them.

Don't miss the raising of the Chinese flag on Tiananmen Square (ridiculously early every morning, like 5am) but its one of those things that sums up China, and the pride for their country.

YES, ZSZ01 knows how things run: PANJIAJUAN market is the best for ol`stuff!

If you are looking for calligraphies, porcelain, antiques and so-called-antiques you have to go to the PANJIAJUAN market in Beijing. It is only on the weekend and you have to go there early, but it is the biggest market in Beijing. The size is about 4 football fields filled with people selling everything possible.

How to get there:
Take Metro Line 1 from the ForbiddenCity/Tiananmen for 5 stations and get off at GUOMAO Station. Outside the station take Bus No. 28 for 20-25 minutes to the market. Just ask people on the bus, they know the market.

If you're too lazy to get up at 5.00am, you can see the lowering of the flag at 6.00pm (is that right? Is it six?) - same ceremony in reverse, and you get to sleep in :)
