Little Qingdao Isle
Located to the southeast of Zhanqiao Pier, Xiaoqingdao Island is a pleasant little islet. Connectting with the land by a narrow way, it’s been one of the symbols of Qingdao. A bird’s eye view of the island reveals that it is shaped like an ancient lute, and hence it is also known as Lute Island (or Qindao). The island has a little park, a few small cafes, and a famous old lighthouse. Germans built the white lighthouse on the isle at the beginning of the 20th century. When the light reflects on the sea at night, it is truly a spectacle. The island is ideal for a short stroll as it allows for excellent views of the Huilan Pavilion and the Zhanqiao Pier, the Naval Museum’s rusting submarine and destroyer, and, if the weather is nice, the nearby Yellow Island (Huangdao) nestling in the mist. The island is dotted with black pines and flowers such as oriental cherries, green peaches, pomegranates, and roses of Sharon.
The island is ideal for after dinner walk, the excellent views of the Huilan Pavilion and the Zhanqiao Pier could make you relax more, and, if the weather is nice, the nearby Yellow Island (Huangdao) nestling in the mist.
Whenever you go to Qingdao, Little Qingdao Isle is one of the place you can not miss.
