By KYLE | 1/9/2006 3:25:11 AM
Coming to Kunming from Hanoi? Any travel is difficult in China if you dont really have a little bit of the language down so make sure you study. There are a few buses from Hekou. 9:30, 12:30, and some time after 6:00. You dont want to get stuck in boaring Hekou, so make sure you time it right. Buses going to Hekou from Kunming leave at night, 7:30 arriving early morning.

Hekou- Hanoi to China
By KYLE | 1/9/2006 3:19:44 AM
Big warning when crossing the boarder from Lao Cai to Hekou. You will cross and its a really short walk to the bus station. There is a man who works there, Tom. He might change his name, hes got a shaved head and a little bit darker for a Chinese man. Dont trust him, Don't talk to him, dont deal with him. Hes not dangerous but hes in it for the money. If you find a man named Knee you can change money with him at a decent rate. Good luck, the bus ride to Kunming takes 9-12 hours depending on what bus.

Where to party in Kunming area
By TREY | 1/6/2006 4:14:26 AM
When Partying in Kunming, go to the hump area. For a mellow but cool cultural experience go north to Dali for a couple of days and go to the Bird Bar or pop south for a day and go to Cafe Fin Du Monde in Yuxi. You will not only people watch at these places but meet and chat with the people you are watching.

Li Jiang - best traditional guesthouse!
By KATERINABALLERINA | 11/1/2005 4:39:49 AM
My friend and I have just spent three days in the most beautiful guesthouse and wanted to recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Li Jiang...
It is called Moon Inn and is right in the centre of the old town. Having opened only a couple of mnths ago everything is brand new, immaculately clean. Run by local Naxi Chinese family, it is as close to living with a family as you can get. About 10 double and twin rooms all with en suite bathroom (and Western toilet) The food is delicious and home-cooked and the service is second to none. On our first day we found a bowl of fruit and flowers in our room and breakfast far surpassed anything we had eaten over the past few weeks in hotels...
The owner's daughter is called Li and she speaks fluent English. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and we often sat in the lovely, sunny coutyard to read or drink green tea - brought to us almost whenever we sat down by Li's father.
For anyone who's keen to get away from the tour groups and the impersonal service of hotels this is guaranteed make your trip to Li Jiang!
Telephone number: 0888 518 0520 or 0888 666 10 73
Address: Wuyi Road in the old town of Lijiang.
I'll try to attach a photo of the view from our bedroom window.
