Hey, just a quick note for anyone thinking of hopping the border for a week or so...I recently came across budget airline Airasia which flies return from Xiamen to Bangkok for under 1000RMB...may be worth a try! Maybe the new Ryanair?

Usually called the Film City..but its fancy calling it little beijing coz the replica is so wonderfully crafted.

U can savour a simple meal inside while taking different snapshots of the place.

There is a yard for horsebackriding and u can took photos for only 20rmb.

It is also a nice experience to walk the back streets in Xiamen City. You feel safe even at 10 in the evening. Most salespeople are patient and accomodating. And the merchandise quality is of high quality.

choosing a hotel

My choice is a middle class (3 star) hotel. This time I chose Xiamen Plaza which is along major transportation routes and next to a bus terminal and a popular shopping center with exciting fast foods and Walmart. The manager-Ms. Sue is also English speaking.

We strongly recommend that you buy a city map for RMB 5 and Amoymagic by Dr. Bill Brown for RMB 30 at Xinhua bookstore at Zhongshan Rd. It easier to get around. Bus rides cost RMB 1. Pay upon embarking.

Enjoy Amoy!
By AMOYBILL | 5/3/2004 11:31:22 PM

When we moved to Xiamen from California in 1988, we never imagined we'd take up Permanent Residence! China's "Garden Island" is a beautiful place to visit, or to settle down (over 3,000 laowai have fallen in love with Amoy and settled down!). There's so much to see and do that I've written the 450 page "Amoy Magic--Guide to Xiamen" as a guide and outline of our fascinating international heritage and culture. Check out sites like Gulangyu Island, or Xiamen University, at our website:
