That would be subjective. Cost of living would depend on what your requirements/expectations are, apart from where you're located.

GUEST52220 I'm planning on going over to China to teach within the next year and am finding researching a suitable location over-whelming. I'm looking for somewhere that is inexpensive for accomadtion and general cost of living e.g shopping, amenities and socialising. Somewhere I have the opportunity to experience culture, where I will be able to communicate with people at ease who are in a similar situation to me...i.e foreign who are either working or studying there. The weather situation isn't a big issue with me as I live in England and the weather is unpredictable at best. Just any advice that anyone can offer would be ideal as I'm wanting to push forward with doing this now while I'm still young.
Thank you.
Jane

GUEST22613 I love Hong Kong. It is the most exciting and wonderful city I have ever visited. I'd like to live there if it were not always so hot and if it were a little less expensive.

I'm in a similar situation to Jane above; I am planning on pursuing work in China in the near future and am trying to decide where to go. Like the United States, China is a huge country, though, with lots of varied climates and regional and local differences. Trying to decide is leaving me baffled.

As I said, I loved HK, and Guangzhou as well. I enjoy trying food that I've never had before, and Guangzhou has more than its share of variety. My only problem with them was that they were too hot, even in the middle of winter. I want to live in a place that has four seasons; a place where you can see your breath and throw snowballs in the winter, but still feel the heat in the summer. I would also like to live in a city that is well connected by quick inter-city trains with other major cities so that I can explore easier when I have time off.

If more people could post their favorite city, province, or region and (most important part) explain WHY they like that place, it would be very helpful to those of us trying to decide where in that enormous country to move.

My contribution: Hong Kong. I love it because it is a city of the world, but a very Chinese city at the same time. HK has fantastic public transportation, great food, fun nightlife, and the very best night cityscape in the world - the night view of the city from Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon is unmatched by any city I have ever been to. Hong Kong also has lots of job opportunities for people with skills and education, and plenty of nice (though expensive) housing. You can get to Shenzhen or Guangzhou easily by train or ferry, and, of course, Hong Kong is close to every other major city in the world by air.

Your turn.

Your turn.

Linchuan? Or do you perhaps mean Yinchuan?
Similarly, Taiyuan or Taijuan?
My own order of preference would be: Weihai, Changzhou, Taiyuan, Urumqi, Fuqing and Yinchuan.
