Bus trip from Kunming to Lijiang

GUESTMANU	In 2006, Tillotson wrote that it was possible to buy an airline ticket from Kunming to Lijiang for $ 28 if it the ticket was purchased in China and paid with cash. Is it still true? In that case, it would be 10 times cheaper than what you can find on the internet!

The current best price I can get on a roundtrip between Kunming and Lijiang is about $240 USD. We are flying to Kunming from Bangkok in Oct and then on to Lijiang but I've yet to get our Kunming/Lijiang flights booked due to the high cost. I see your note that we can purchase with cash once we're in China for only about $30 (roundtrip or one way?). That sounds great but I'm a bit nervous waiting until I arrive at the Kunming airport to purchase the tickets onto Lijiang as we have a hotel already booked in Lijiang and are only staying for 4 nights. Any idea whether the flights get booked quickly? Or if there is another way to book flights at that rate without waiting until we arrive in China? Many thanks.

GUEST13771	Just a clarification question - do you mean a bus from Kunming would arrive in Old Dali or Dali (xiaguan)?

GUESTRICHARD...	Hello Yabaroo, You seem to be well informed on Yunnan's bus network. I plan to travel from Laos to Lijiang (most probably via Kunming) and then back to Xishuanbanna (also via Kunming?). I prefer day travel to enjoy the scenery. I would imagine that there is not much of a problem to go by bus. Can you confirm this? My mail is rhn at greenmail dot ch. Thank you very much. Richard (Geneva)
