Interesting it is! The scenery in the village must be very fascinating! Seems that in China the places inhabitated by the minorities are always beautiful. And if the locals can follow their old customs, the scenery will also be unspoiled!

“Walking marriage” doesn’t mean people can change their partners as they wish they could, People get together for love and love only, no money issue involved. Lots of couples never changed their lovers for life. The place where Mosuo people live is not big, some modern (so called) civilization is still a luxury which the local people do not want to ‘pay’ for it. The tribe has her own rules/ laws, people behave much nobler than some of those who live in the most civilized society. If a person loses reputation, s/he loses almost everything, no chances for “walking marriage”, because all the people will stay away from him/her.

After the couple’s first child is born, there will be a ceremony held on the day when the baby is one month old. His girlfriend’s family will accept this guy afterwards and he can visit his (阿夏=Ah Xia=girlfriend) girlfriend even at daytime in public, if he wishes, he could also help with some housework or other things. It is not obligated whatsoever for the father to pay for the children’s raising cost, but most fathers will give their children some pocket money from time to time. Well in general the children are closer to their uncles (their mothers’ brothers) who are responsible to raise the kids of their sisters.

This is where the Mosuo people live, beautiful isn’t it?

They have opportunities to go to school as long as they wish, and most families as I could see could pay for the children’s education. But their desire of higher education is not that keen. Most girls in the above pictures as other young boys and girls finished middle school or dropped out during that time. Well, if people live in a place like paradise, no reason trying hard to escape. They do not travel around, most members of the tribe do not even have an ID card, because they do not need one.

If I am correct, this woman below is the most famous Mosuo people and maybe the best educated one. She traveled all over the world and wrote books about her romances with different men (4, so far). Her books are available in every bookstore. Her house is now open to public as a little museum, as I am not her fan, I didn’t get in to look.
