If farmers are generally rich, how come there are so many migrant workers seeking to make a living in the cities?

I have heard some reports about the 'TWO MEETINGS' that is the hottest topic these days. many of the problems of farming, countryside and famers are subjected to the meetings to be discussed. But expecting to know the real effects of these.

I have only had limited travel in the rural countryside regions. Some outside of GZ and more outside of Nanning.

I find I get trapped in travel ruts, wherein I like the familiarity and comfort of familiar places. I know Nanning in Guangxi Province well. And I know Guangzhou very well too. I feel I am a big-city guy, who loves the country, but finds more comfort in the larger cities, both here and in China !! I have made a resolution to venture out more into the countryside, on my next visits.

I have a close friend who just returned home from a three week visit to Sichuan Province, Chengdu and the surrounding environs rural and he just raved about it !! He told me that the local residents were so very friendly to him and his 13 year old son !! :)

Sorry....I guess I got off topic there !! LOL

With the little travel I have had to the rural areas, I have always been fascinated by the farming techniques and also the quality of the food grown !!

It is still amazing to see the farmers working the paddies, with the teams of oxen !! It also amazes me how the food distribution chain, from farm to market, works so great in China !!

Much like the transportation system :)

50 yuan maybe one week/month earning for them...
Is that true, May? Unquote

Yes, it's definitely true. According to the survey in 2004, Chinese famrers' average yearly income is 2936 yuan.
In the remotest village of Hainan province, Zhi'e Village, people's yearly income is just 300 yuan. No electricty, no brick-made house, and even no wife (over one hundred male are single)
The record of 2003 showed that the 12 provinces and regions in West China has almost 0.29 billion farmers, whose average yearly income is just 1966 yun.

50 yuan is still a big task for many farmers...

Go to the west, go to the countryside. You can understand China better.

Sorry Sharif. I am not sure I can differentiate between Earning and Income. The original Chinese I saw is 平均年收入. Maybe someone who's good at both Chinese and English can translate to us.
Which village? I'm not very familiar with village although my homeland is in a small village near Xian. People there are not very poor. They have electricity, water, some home appliances. But still they are not rich. Most of their income comes from the land. No other good way to earn extra money except going to big cities and work.

Generally we feel the same meaning.
In the eyes of Tax department, Accountant, Economist, two are different. So need to discus with those persons. I can’t explain clearly as I am not from those subjects. My explanation only for your understanding.

Income = Earning – expenses
(Income equal to, earning minus expenses)

So earning is not equal to Income.

We pay Tax only on Income, not on earning.

So Income 50 Yuan per day, not too small!!!
