:D No, the pork is less popular. It is because of the history. According to some statistics Tatars are:

78 % Islam
18 % Christian
2 % Tengrians
2 % Atheists

___

That is why the pork can't be popular.

Wow, it is hard to explain. First I was born in a Christian (Orthodox 东正教),but, in fact, most of the members of my family were Atheists. I respect very much the ancient believes of our forefathers - Huns (Bulgar), Kipchaks and Mongols - Tengrianism and I like the Lamaism, but as far as my major is Philosophy and I am a Communist (my favourite are Engels, Lenin and Mao), I think that I like the 怀疑论 (Skepticism) - I can't be sure is there some God or gods, etc. Till today nobody prove it. If someday the science give us some true evidences or the God/gods appear in front of us and let's observe them to be sure that they are REAL, then I will not believe, I will KNOW them or Him.
As a scientist and philosopher I am following the rule ot Okham's razor and I think it is the most clever what we can do at the present time.
SO, I DO EAT PORK :):):):):):):):):):) (Sometimes).

Hello, BBQQ!

No, there are more than 50% vegetable dishes. The main differences between Tatars and other Hun-turkic peoples:

-We, traditionally, were using spoons, they prefer hands.
-We, traditionally, were able to built castles and different kind of houses, but they were living mostly in yurts (Meng gu Bao)
-They were good in growing animals, but we were good as well in producing : vegetables, fruit (gardening), honey and animals.
THERE ARE some dishes WITHOUT ANY MEAT for example a soup :
-Carrots+Potatoes+Onion.
OR
THERE ARE some dishes with half meat, half vegetable - for example - that one:
-FLOUR+ONION+MEAT.
------
The Russians get a lot of ideas from Tatarian food.
OF COURSE we got something from other people as well. This is a "picture" of our kitchen:

1. NATURAL HUNS (BULGARS) DISHES (i.e. TATARIANS):

-KATUK
-BAL MAY
-KABARTMA

2. CHINESE INFLUENCE:

-TEA
-JIAO ZI

4. UZBEK INFLUENCE:

-PLOV
-HALVA
-SHERBET

Here are some flour flowers for you :)
