| Other source: Chow , Cai Qing-a girl from SH internationally accomplished dramatist daughter of Zhou Xin Fang. Born and educated in Shanghai, Tsai Chin went Westward at the age of 17 and was a graduate of the British Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts(RADA) in 1959. Later on in the 1970s, she was awarded a Master’s Degree by Tufts University in Boston. Since graduating from RADA, Tsai Chin has had a spectacular career starting with a title role at West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre in “The World of Suzie Wong”. She drew a full house for 3 years. During the late 1960s, she was nominated for “Best Actress” for her role in Granada Television‘s production of “A Subject of Struggle” as Chinese first lady Wang Guang Mei. As a Chinese actress in the West, Tsai Chin has many “firsts” under her belt: ·First Chinese student of RADA ·First Chinese actress to take the lead on stage in London’s West End ·First Chinese singer to record in Chinese in the United Kingdom, among them the “Ding Dong Song” |

Her critically acclaimed roles include Auntie Lindo in “Joy Luck Club”, Juicy Lucy in “Virgin Soldiers” and Bond Girl in “You Only Live Twice”. In 1998, Tsai Chin had her name-above-title playing the lead in “Golden Child” on Broadway. Her most recent work is appearing in “Memory of A Geisha”, produced by Steven Spielberg, due to release at the end of 2005. Apart from being an actress, Tsai Chin has an impressive director’s credit of “Seagull” by Chehkov and Shakespeare’s “Tempest” and “Twelve Nights”. Tsai Chin now makes Los Angeles her home. |
