GUEST10117 The U.S has the most advanced military, in terms of weaponry, navy and aircraft.

China has the worlds largest standing army, but one must ask themselves. How do you transport so many people with such a weak navy? You can't, it's simply impossible for them to use their full potential in this day in age. However, within the next half a century or so, things such as troop transport will become far easier. But yet again, how would China equip them all? And even if they could, how do you feed 500 million soldiers on a foreign field . Again, not possible. And, once that little problem is solved, you have to consider the fact that alot of the army will fit into an area of around 100km2? How many ballistic missiles does it take to destroy that area? Around 10. How many has the U.S Got, around 9000 (armed and ready at the time of writing this).

GUEST25535 Indian military currently lacks both the quality and the quantity in terms of Main-Battle-Tanks (mainly T-55), Fighter-Jets (mainly MiG-21), War-Ships and other war-machines. If they want to strengthen their military as well as want to continue their economic development, then they need to have a well defined short term and long term direction. In short term India should invest more in their development of indigenous weapons, instead of buying from foreign countries. Even in the 126 MRCA fighter-jet contract, India should induct their indigenous LCA-Tejas temporarily, then they should go for the 5th generation MRCA jointly developed with Russia right-away. At the same time they should continue their joint development & production of weaponry with friendly countries such as Russia, Israel, France etc. Otherwise it will be very costly for them to sustain their Military modernization. Only then India could be a global military power, unless with only manpower they are not a modern military power.

GUEST55230 Only one thing is confirmed, in terms of quality and quantity of military hardware of various types, it USA at the top, no questions asked. But after that with Soviets gone and China yet to modernize in terms of military, it is difficult to rank them. Although if Europe Federalizes overnight or sometimes sooner then they will definitely be the Rank-2 currently with similar reasons as applied to the USA. Russia still has the technological know-how to produce modern weapons but lacks funding severely. And China just the opposite. May be these 2 jointly occupy the 3-rd spot. Now countries like India, Israel, Pakistan, etc. they are localized military. With Indian economy booming they could join the big four above if they have a vision & well constructed strategy.

Military strength lies not in armies alone. It comes from alliances. No single nation will ever be powerful enough to control the world forever. Alliances can, and have changed very quickly. The next world war will not be a conflict of economies. They are settled in boardrooms. Neither will it be a war of ideologies. They are settled with proxy wars. It will be the inevitable clash of the cultures. More likely than not China and the US will be on the same side because they have the most to lose. Even more likely, that will be the losing side.
