Obesity is a big problem. It is common to see that there are more and more obese Children. As the living standard improves, kids are well fed. Kids aborb excessive nutrients. So, for the sake of your kids, you should try to be mean. Haha, kidding.

Oh my god! The one on the picture is so horrible. Obesity is contagious. I have several close friends who are fat. Do it mean that I will become fat soon? Oh, terrible.

Something I learned from my grandfather is he was very disciplined (he is a military man). He always ate until he was 70% full and never took a single bite more. He drank vinegar and took cold showers too!

He told my mom that you eat to not starve. He always made sure to go outside and climb the mountains to get fresh air and exercise.

Also, when Chiang Kai-Shek passed away, there were long lines of people waiting to see him. My grandfather rode in a military car so he could drive right into the funeral grounds. My mom asked to ride with him and he said no and she had to wait in line with everyone else even though her father was a high-ranking military officer!
It shows that he doesn't abuse his power. I think it's very hard to do. I mean, if it was my progeny, I'd be like, oh yeah, get in the car! Haha. This is very difficult to do.

Wait, that was a huge tangent! haha.

GUESTDAVED I think the common denominator here is the spread of the so called American dream. If everyone eats like the Americans then everyone will suffer the same obesity problems which their society is now beset with. I say get rid of MacDonalds,KFC,Pizza Hut etc etc and you will still have a chance to stop the rot. However, I also believe that Asian people are naturally slimmer in a genetic sense, but whether that will be enough to save them from the current western scourge of obesity remains to be seen.

Basically, there are two kind of fatness. Some people just get fat, no matter what they eat, other people simply eat themselves fat. Must say that there are people who doesn´t get fat at all.

If someone gets fat although he/she eats quite healthy food, the reason may be found from childhood. If a child is fat, it is quite obvious she/he will be fat as adult. Although child looses weight when grow older, fat cells don´t disappear. They only shrink and wait for fat to be eaten again. When people stop growing, their need for energy gets smaller. If eat more than daily need is, over going energy changes to fat and cells have fiesta then.

Is obesity socially contagious? I´d say partly it is. Chynagyrl is right about parent´s affect to their children.
Also Guestdaved hits the point, if think about younger peoples; teenagers and young adults. More and more they eat junk food, and they do it together.

Guestdavec,
the problem is not only American, it can be seen all over the world and, no matter how sorry I am, no one can stop it. Otherwise I agree with You.

Parents, don´t feed Your kids fat, keep them thin, they will thank You later.
