I always ask invoice. Well, some small dining places must pay first. But if not, I always ask. Have had no problems with invoices. Have had no reward yet, too.

When I was in China last summer, I was always asking for it because (shame on me!!) all my meals where paid by my employer of the time. Plz Chinese litterates, remind me: are they "fa pio"? - I'm sure I have the wrong spelling... And could you please explain what is the bonus exactly? The restaurant lowers the total if you ask for receipt??? Or is it something you can claim from the gouverment like a tax break later on? This info will be useful for me to know starting next month...I'm going to teach in Shijiazhuang and I will try tons of new restaurants. Thx / AL

I always ask for invoices; that is; if I remember to do so. It is true that restaurant owners often will come up with some excuses. Or they'll give you the invoice, but then they've already scratched it themselves to make you sure there's no reward for you. The only thing I've ever won is 5 yuan. It was a glorious moment ;)

I have a question: do you ever ask invoice in the KFC or Mc Donald? I did it in Xi'an but I am not lucky. There is no reward. How about you?

Of course. Every time I went to KFC I surely ask for invoice. And I've won 5 yuan for several times.

Again, what is this bonus exactly? a "scratch and win" lottery on receipts???? Is this the gouvernment's way to encourage people to force the restaurant owners to declare all their revenues for tax purpose? Thanks for explaining this to me.

AL32, you are right. the invoice is the gouvernment's way to encourage people to force the restaurant owners to declare all their revenues for tax purpose. In Xi'an, the bunus varies from 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 3000 yuan.

Yes, but I've only got 5 yuan and 20 yuan...

I am surprised to hear someone has won 5 rmb, I have never seen a winner at all. Ellen, if you get a drink, I think you have a bigger reward than most people ever get from the scratchies
