GUEST22639 Once you get the visa in hand, that's your green light. Just don't do anything stupid while your there or be looking up sensitive issues via internet or speaking about such there.

A visa is NOT a green light! It is a signal to the immigration offcers a the time of entry that the applicant has met certain conditions ...sometimes it's just that a fee has been paid. The final decision is on arrival and you can be denied entry for any reason whatsoever that is consistent with the laws and regulations of that country. This applies to ALL countries, not just China.

For most minor offences you are not normally denied a visa by China, but I wouldn't admit to drug, political or religious related convictions! Many countries ask about convictions but have no way of proving whether you have if you say 'no'. There is then normally no problem unless there are other issues when you arrive at immigration, then they might investigate and be able to use a knowingly false answer as a reason for not allowing you to enter.

GUEST22639 Oh, sorry, I meant green light in regards to the criminal conviction no longer being an issue (with assumption that GUEST72138 gave his convictions, followed by "i hope"). Unless one lied and was later interrogated about any past crimes. In the other case of telling the truth, well, the truth was told and the visa was issued.

GUEST09115 I lied and I'm living in china now. NEVER admit to anything on paper. I think everyone is too paranoid.

Can I ask if you obtained a work visa while withholding your record? If so, how did you? And did your employer never check as well. If not issued a work visa are you just using some type of temporary residence card?

GUEST00184 SO, the question has been asked a few times, and I haven't seen an answer yet: What happens if you lie on the visa application, then you're later found out in China? Do you get arrested? Deported? Fined? What?

GUEST09115 guest22639. don't ask don't tell is the best policy. Unless you are working with children or for a huge corporation people don't check. Also, i think it is safe to assume that the people who ask for these records are usually n ot chinese. Chinese don't worry about criminal background checks. That is more of a western thing. also, there are lots of regulations in the books in china which are simply not followed. There is ALWAYS a way around something. regarding how you do it. simply don't admit it. Once you are in china it will be easier. you can find people to help you, get advice, etc. In reality criminal records are not a big deal for china. police certificates can easily be forged, connections can be made to override the rules. simply put, as long as you behave in China, there should be no problems.
Remember, your past personal life is NO ONE'S business but your own.
Guest 00184. i imagine you would only get deported if you get into additional trouble in china. I know a guy hear who is wanted in America for tax evasion. He has been in China for the past 11 years.

GUEST00184 Thanks 09115, that's actually helpful to hear that you know someone who presumably has a warrant out and has been in China for so long. Does anyone else know of anyone who's gone to China with warrants, etc, on a work visa?

GUEST18633 Sorry if this has been asked before but I cant seem to find an answer.

I am from the UK and have a Spent Adult Caution (not a conviction) for Harrassement in relation to a dispute with a former girlfriend. This happened about 6 years ago, adult cautions are classed as spent after 5 years. In the UK if you apply for a job working with vulnerable groups such as Teachers, Social Workers etc they run whats called an Enhanced CRB check (Criminal Record Bureau) and this will show up but if the employer runs just a normal CRB check is dosent show up.

I have a work placement arranged in China teaching english as a Foreign language and am unsure whether i have to disclose it on the Chinese Visa application, my new employerr in China does not know about the spent caution and they have advised me to apply for a Tourist Visa and they will convert it to a Work Visa once i am over there. Section 4 on the Visa application asks 'Do you have a criminal record in China or any other country'.

Does anyone know if i have to declare this?? Any help would be much appreciated.
