The lack of epidural doesn't surprise me, I couldn't get anaesthetic for a tooth repair.

I plan to give birth in Chengdu in November 2008. Can anyone recommend a hospital? And can anyone give me an idea of how much it may cost? I've heard anywhere from 4,000 RMB to 10,000 RMB. Thanks!

Hey everyone I'm Guest 48165. I gave birth as expected 3 month ago in Guangzhou, In the Mother and Children Hospital. I couldn't get any epidural for the delivery but the midwife was great and very patient. The cost was about 6000rmb. One thing to know: the hospital doesn't provide food. You have to ask someone to bring some to you, or you can buy it to the "ayi" of the hospital. They are women who help patients in the hospital with practical matters, but you have to pay for their services, about 10rmb a day. You should as well get a chinese english dictionary, it helped me many times. I got a good insight of chinese hospitals as 2 month after my delivery i had a surgery. If you need infos, just ask on this forum, maybe I can help you!

Congratulations. We trust that both mother and baby are doing well now. Foreign friends of mine delivered in Luzhou, Sichuan last year with no complications but I have no idea what it cost.
