Hey guys,

Can we just talk about the Korean War here? Some military experts said that The Korean War is a wrong battle that America has fought at a wrong place and in a wrong time. It was a shame that US launched this War in the name of UN forces.

Well, some holds the belief that It was definetly NOT the US who started the war, it was North Korea that invaded the South, the US intervened on large scale after a UN resolution had been passed.

Anyhow, due to the Korean War, Korean Peninsula was split off. Recently, I read a post at a website:the majority of Koreans want to unite the country now...it seems that the US dosn't want peace because it wants to maintain it's bases.

I think it's important to remember Yvonne, that the USA prevented the north from taking over the whole of Korea. The government forces were almost completely defeated and it most likely that with the USA's intervention South Korea now exists as a nation.

Consider the stories of hardship and suffering that are coming out of North Korea. Even though I am not from the USA, I am grateful that South Korea exists as an independent nation and has been spared the despotic rule of the North Korea leader. South Korea is now assisting North Korea with economic development aid, food relief and in many other areas.

The Korean War ended up with the division of Korean Peninsula. It was the reflection of the aftermath of ' Cold War'. The fierce competition between USSR and USA had a bad impact on the international political territory. The split-ups of Vietnam and Korea were the result of the USA-USSR confrontation. Up to now, the situation of Korean Peninsula is instable and uncertain.

The North has never declared an armistice from this war. Even up to this day.
The division of this country started before the intervention of UN forces.
These forces came reluctantly to help because they had just cut back their forces after fighting the Second World War.
The South prospers will the North slowly starves and only survives by handouts from other countries. Its People still try to flee to the north and to the south.
If you had a choice in what part would you live?

My father was on reserve to go to the Korean war, it was lucky he didn't go in the end as I was born during this time in 1951,
I worked with a guy who had been captured and badly tortured, he showed me once his scars he must have been in real pain, I know he was mentally scarred too.

Alan,

So your father did not go to the Korean War. Well, have you ever heard of the People's Volunteering Army of China? My uncle (my mother's elder brother) was one of the members of PVA. He left home for the War at the age of 18, and stayed in Korea for several year. My grandmother missed him so much that she became blind because of the anxiety and too much tears. This is what the Korean War did for my uncle's family.

Certainly, there are quite a lot of families who suffered much more in the war. Some wives lost their husbands and became widows. Countless mothers lost their beloved sons. I think those who suffered most is the people both from North and from the South Korea. Up to now, the Korean Peninsula is still a hotspot. The Six Party Talk is hard to make any tangible progress. The crux of Six Party Talk lies in the hostile relation between DPRK (North Korea) and USA. North Korea wants to get more economic aids exchanging for giving up its nuclear program: wheras US doesn't want to compromise.

"The Brotherhood " is a very touching movie. Because of the Korean War, one of the two Brothers had to be sacrificed.

A great movie. I did not need to read the sub tittles to understand what was going on.
A good example about the pitfalls of war… any war.
