GUEST69245
Hi there,
I am an australian and I have just been offered a job teaching in Guangzhou. Package includes furnished apartment and 8400RMB a month. Can anyone tell me if this sufficient? I will be arriving with my 10 year old. I have been doing research on net, but figure it is best to hear from other ex-pats what it is like living and working in Guangzhou.
Thanks Rachel
That's actually not a good salary to start with. Caucasian teachers normally get 10000 RMB monthly or more. However, you can still survive well in Guangzhou since the expenses are not high here. Good luck!

GUEST73218 I am a Chinese IT engineer, in a French Company. I am dying to meet some English speaking people. Lol.

To answer the australian friend questions, 8400RMB a month is sufficient or not depends on your life style. Do you need pay rent? For me, it is far enough. :)

Hello. I am a fully-blooded Chinese, born & raised in the U.S. that can speak Mandarin Chinese enough to get many points across & to understand, but not well enough to understand the radio or the T.V., maybe about 85% or better normal conversation depending on what is being said.

Today I was offered to teach English in Guangzhou for a year with all expenses paid & I'm scared to death. Being a Christian, who ALREADY thinks the U.S. is too socialistic, I don't want to end up being penalized in some way there.

I would like detailed comments on my safety from EXPERIENCED Americans, especially Chinese Americans. I almost feel like I have NO idea what I might get into. All I know is that I REALLY want to be able to read, write, speak, & understand Mandarin as well as a college student from China or Taiwan.

Thank you for your input,

GUEST23433 Don't be discourage as I am over 60 too and I am a woman who worked in China over 16 years after I moved out from NY and I seems a little hard to go back NY as I lost most of my friends. Of course, I still try to find them if I could.

Look the bright side, we gain a lot as China is growing and we can take advantage form both countries. We can spend less money to travel in China since we already here. I have skype "juliarobinson168" I am glad to meet frineds from USA. have a good weekend

GUESTJASON I've been in Guangzhou for 2 1/2 years. My wife is native Chinese and I was raised in the states (Los Angeles for about 18 years and in Dallas for 7). I'm 35 and mostly busy with my business here but would love (no not that kind of love...I'm married remember?)... to meet some people from the states... Hang out, go to movies, and eat out or whatever. If you have a gf/wife that speaks Chinese, that's great cuz then the girls can have their girl talks while the we have ours... my wife speaks Cantonese, mandarin, and sichuan-nese(?)... I like computers, technology, cars, electronics, and silly stuff like South park... If anyone wants to meet up or chat first, I'm available on Yahoo: turbocomppro or QQ: 328067764 or mail to: turbocomppro at yahoo.com!

GUEST64222 Hello to all.... I'm contemplating a move to Guangzhou for work, but not sure about how i would like it. I'm not really that excited about big cities but i can tolerate it as long as I can escape every once in a while to nice mountains or wherever on a bicycle or motorbike. I realise Guangzhou is pretty big, but how hard is it to escape when the need arises? Can foreigners ride motorbikes there? Any advice appreciated. Thanks
