Would training a 800lb. gorilla and using as an escort help in some of these circumstances?

The problem is, how does a person train a 800lb. gorilla(very carefully)?

Ralph - "I doubt that the whole world would envy people that earn, on average, say GBP70/month".

Money is relevant, and while £70 will only just fill up your car with fuel in the UK, it is enough to live on for a month here. So your argument is incredibly shortsighted. Even if prices were the same in the two respected countries, then I would still rather live in China where people are more happy, and don't live their lives in front of reality TV. Every time I return to the UK, it becomes more and more obvious to me what a bunch of miserable, complaining, and unsatisfied people it breeds. If you think envy should only be provoked by money, they go to live in Saudi Arabia. I'm sure you'll be very happy.

I assume you mean 'money is relative' and 'respective countries', if you are really British why is your English so bad?

Whilst working in Guangdong in the early 1990s my monthly income approximated to an average Chinese income for a ten-year period. I know that money is relative.

Although I have no idea nor do I care how much it costs to fill up one's car with fuel in the UK these days, I am well aware that £70 is what many people in China have to live on per month. If you read my response properly that would be clear.

I did not imply that envy should or should not be provoked by money; I implied that it is so. If you are unaware that envy is provoked largely by money or the lifestyle that money can provide then you, yourself, are indeed shortsighted.

Now that you mention it, it seems to me that the terms miserable, complaining and unsatisfied could be applied to the way that the Chinese unwillingness to queue is being discussed here.

Although I live in Dalian it just so happens that I am working in Saudi at the moment. For the third time. No western expatriate is ever happy to be in Saudi, I even less so as I am parted from my Chinese fiancé who, due to visa restrictions, has had to remain in Dalian. Unfortunately the salary that I command is only rarely on offer in China. What I am happy with is that by putting up with the hardships myself my salary is adequate to relieve the hardships of all my Chinese family and friends.

So as I stated in an earlier post, I would prefer to be at home in China and would be happy to put up with a bit of pushing and shoving which is in any case the norm in most regions of the world.

As I also posted earlier, if you are bothered about it why don't you travel by taxi? When I was last in Guangzhou last July there did not appear to be a lack of them.

Ones up on a time, not so long ago the people from the most developed countries were just like it or worse.

Doubt it? Read your country's history.

(((I doubt that the whole world would envy people that earn, on average, say GBP70/month even if they had, by western standards, impeccable manners.)))

Perhaps we do not have a reason to envy, but the truth is, there are many things that we cherish about China.

JCNILE, please note that I did not say that those who know China quite well are unaware of many reasons why the Chinese are to be envied.

It was 'the whole world' in general that was being referred to and the way that I am frequently asked why I, or any other non Chinese would want to live permanently in China leads me to believe that the Chinese are not perceived universally as a nation to be envied.

Pushing and shoving is warming exercise and gets you awakened till you step into workplace.

Ralphh, in Saudi. I guess you ride a camel, in shanghai, I ride a bike to work with double-edged aims, ie, saving and health.

Riding a camel? Interesting!

For me, I hate pushing and shoving. Take waiting bus for example. I wouldn't get on a bus if it is full of people. If I want to go out at weekend, I get up early. When I have done what I should do, I get back as early as possible. Thus, I needn't crowd in the public bus with others.

No Marrie, I am sorry to say that although I have worked in the Middle East a lot in the last 30 years, I have never ridden a camel. We are provided with the boring modern equivalent, 4 wheel drives, and expected to use them. The photo shows our camel shed, 2008 style.

Your means of transport is really triple-edged, as well as fitness and cost you are not in any way contributing to carbon emissions.

At home in China I am not so eco-friendly, I like to ride my ChangJiang750 sidecar, especially up in Heilongjiang where the roads are not busy.
