Personally, I don't know much on British men. But in China, we see BRITISH GENTLEMAN is standard model or a synonym of noble and well-educated western men.

One difference between British Gentlemen and American men, is that the latter can't accept that someone else is better than them, as is proved by Griz's comment #5. Holding a door open for someone really doesn't take any time. The idea is not to stand there for hours on end holding it open for everyone, but to simply hold it for the next person (if they are close behind you) so that it doesn't close in their face. That same person will then hold it open for the next person, and so on. However, when one does this in China, th next person will just walk past without as much as a look of acknowledgment, leaving you to hold the door open for everyone! The theory only works if everyone participates.

Maybe I could hold "manner classes" for Chinese men?

Baron, I believe that you will be a good teacher. For me, I usually observe the rule of "Ladies first." But I believe it is not enought to be a gentleman. What do I need to do to be a gentleman?

GUEST54109 A gentleman is humble and not sarcastic. Chinese people are fine. They do not need manner classes.

(((Horsefeathers and flying pigs!)))

I hope that, the author intended to be funny, but these are certainly uncommonly strong words!
