I am planning to go to Dongguan from Macau in 2009. Appreciate if anyone can provide the info below: 1. Where can i get the direct bus ticket from Macau to Dongguan? 2. Is it a must to stop at Zuhai to pass through immigration? 2. What is the Guangzhao immigration office hour? 3. Estimate how much is the taxi fee for a 1/2 macau city tour? Thanks. With love.

Dear Soonwe 1) You can inquire at the arrival hall of the Macau airport. There are a few travel booths and counters. 2) From Macau to mainland China by land/road must go through Gongbei Immigration checkpoint. 3) Malaysian Immigration? It's office hour, from 09:00 until 15:00. 4) If you take a taxi from the airport to Immigration Macau-Gongbei, you have seen almost 1/4 Macau that costs 60 Pataca (MOP). Taxi starts at 11.50 MOP. If you take bus from the airport, AP1 you pay 3.30 MOP and every bag is charged at 3 MOP. The bus ride takes about 30-45 minutes. You can either pay in MOP or HKD; you have seen 1/2 of Macau. You can refer to my previous thread and responses. I go to SZ/GZ almost every month, either through Macau, Hong Kong or Shenzhen. If you need the details, please message me, and I will be glad to assist. May God bless you. Wan

Dear Soon That means your flight KUL-HKG-KUL? Day 1 until Day 2 I have no comment. Don't forget to ride tram for only HKD2 per ride, it's interesting but not enough time for Disneyland I think. Take turbojet ferry in the morning from HK Island (Queen Port) to Macau that takes about 1 hr. Make sure you have some HKD (in coins) so that you can use coins for bus ride in Macau. Anyway for an adventure, you can use any hotel shuttle bus/coach service (free) and from there you can walk around Macau. Macau-Gongbei Immigration counter closes at 12 midnight but last bus to Dongguan (DG) will be at 21:00. If it is late, you can stay in Gongbei, cheaper than Macau of course. Sihai hotel is cheap and clean at 150RMB per night. Early in the morning you can go to DG. [If you need someone to show you around, you can contact Cherry (she's 22 yo) and always free in the evening, she's like a family to me}. Bus to DG takes about 2.5 hours that costs approximately 65RMB. Many buses go to DG, don't worry. DG has 3 main districts and 25 towns, which areas will you be visiting? Maybe your bus will stop at Guan Yuan bus station in Guangzhou (GZ). Where will you stay in GZ? Only one day in GZ? You will regret to stay in GZ for a day, not much to see. GZ is a big city that has 12 districts. From GZ take a train, either from Central or East station to HK and make a stop at Luohu (Lowu) Immigration (GZ-HK takes approx 2.5 hrs ), at Admiralty (HK) you can take metro train to the airport. 2) what's your budget? How many persons will be with you? In GZ you can stay at Jiamei Inn for less than 150RMB per night at Shangxia Jiu area. It's a nice place, not far from Holiday Inn, and there's a pedestrian shopping area, just like in Beijing Lu. 3) You won't visit Shenzhen (SZ)? 4) You can email me for further clarifications or probable rewrite of your itinerary. It's my pleasure to assist. Wan

Dear Soon An addendum from me: what carrier will you be using? AK, MAS, CS? If using AK (AirAsia) you need to buy now, cheaper. In case to rewrite you itinerary, it is good if you could provide me you flight schedule. Thanks.

| Dear GuestXun 1) Not many cheap hotels near Beijing Lu (maybe others can help). I only know 7 Days Inn that costs 179RMB per night, about 800 metres from Beijing Lu. Metro train station is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel (http://www.sunnychina.com/ 2) Metro Station for Beijing Lu is Gong Yuan Qian 3) Buddhist religious items are a lot in Guangzhou, you can take Metro train from Beijing Lu to Changshou Lu station (line 2), then you can go to Shangxia Jiu Lu. 4) A lot of good food in GZ, frrom Western, Asian, Middle Eastern to Chinese. | SoonWF: Do you know Dongguan? It is a VERY spread out city. The rail station is WAY out of town. The bus station in the East is also way out. Essential that you find out where in Dg you want to get to, and buy a map as soon as u arrive. I hate DG, hardest town I know of to get around. |

I agree with you Paul. It's better for SoonWF to go direct to GZ from Gongbei but DG city is one of her destinations, so I can't ask her to skip DG (probably she has business appointment or to meet a friend).

Hi!, all, I have never been to DG and GZ. My friend recommend me to go to GZ, she said good shopping place then HK. I have a far relative in DG, so I was thinking to visit him since he is sick and old. In fact, I don't like to go to southern part of China at all. I been to Shenzhen before, it was really not a good experience, I hate the Luohu Immigration. Wan, my plan : KUL -> HK, GZ ->KL. My mum and a friend will go together with me. My mum may not be comfortable with tight schedule. May be I have to change some of my itinerary.

Dear Soon It's good to visit a distant relative. Most China immigration counters are almost the same except airports and ferry terminals. In Gongbei Immigration, you will mingle with runners who will beat queues (they never learn how to queue), in fact (through my experience) Luohu Immigration is better than Gongbei or Huanggang. I used to queue at GB Immigration Checkpoint for 1 hr just to stamp my passport. If you intend to go by ferry, then go to Fuyong instead of Shekou. From Fuyong you can take a bus to DG. As you would be bringing your mom along, I would strongly suggest you take a bus from HK Airport to DG and pass through Huanggang Immigration Checkpoint. Takes approximately 2 hours. 2) HK is a shopping haven, but hotels and food are too steep for backpackers. You can't find cheaper imitation goods in HK as in mainland China. 3) I think you still retain your initial travel itinerary but skip Macau, too hectic for your mom. Thus maybe: KL--HK--DG--GZ--HK--KL 4) You can either stay in HK for 1 or 2 nights then go to DG or go to DG first and stay in HK on your way back to Malaysia. 5) Plan what you want to do besides visiting a distant ailing relative. Maybe stay longer in GZ, it's an interesting moden-blended old city, lots to offer. Take Pearl River cruise, visit parks, pedestrian shopping malls, etc. 6) Have a nice and memorable trip. Wan
