Today is Feb 4th. This is a special day for Chinese because Spring begins today. In China, there are some old traditions to celebrate this festival.

1. Eat radish. When I was young, my mother usually prepared some fresh radishes for our families on the day that Spring begins. Today, our family still observes this old tradition.

3. “Whipping Spring”. In ancient times, the farmers usually whip their farm cattle to welcome Spring. It is time for “Spring Plowing”. Meanwhile, those folk artists made clay sculptures of ox and sent them to other people. Those who received the clay sculptured oxen gave some money to the folk artists.

Like Xiaoxiao, my mom prepares radish for us when Spring begins. We call this "Yao Chun (bite Spring literally)". However, we don't eat "Spring roll" and "whip" Spring.
