Hand baggage allowances on domestic flights | |

Hi! I'm going to China in one week and will be traveling inside for three weeks taking domestic flights 4 times. I'm taking just the hand baggage for all my trip, which will mostly be filled in with my DSLR camera and lenses. The camera is heavy and my baggage will definately not meet the 5kg weight allowance. So here comes my question - do they weight hand baggages at the airports in China? What if my hand baggage is overweighted? Can I pay for the overweight? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, maczek

Yes I know about it but how does it look in practice? Does anyone of you have a hand baggage weighted at the airport?

So far I find that they're generally very lax with carry-on luggage.

Thanks :) I hope they don't force me to leave or send my DSLR camera as registered baggage. It's so sensitive. Thanks Ellyse! :)

Best of luck to you. :) Where would you be going in China?

Thanks :) I'm going to Beijing and the same day directly to Chengdu for 4 days, Leshan, then Guilin and some minority villages nearby (Ping An, Longji, etc), then Yangshuo - 5 days, Shanghai - 4 days, and at the end Beijing (one week). What do you think about these villages (Naxi minority and others) near Guilin and Ping An? Is it worth to go there? Lonely Planet and other guides say nothing about those places and I'm affraid a little to go there because the only word I can say in Chinese is "nihao" ;)

if you use a carrying case like Lowepro back pack for your DSLR I think it's OK, just show them (if asked) that they are for your DSLR camera, lenses and other related equioment, but if you use metal case, probably they will request you to treat as check-in baggage. I used to carry two bags onboard which I think more than 10kg, as one bag was for my laptop and camera. Wan

Wan, thanks for your reply :) I have a medium National Geographic backpack with two compartments - one for DSLR & lenses and one for other stuff. Fortunately I don't have any metal case ;)
