I don't think Hanuman is similar to the Monkey god(Sun Wu Kong).
Reasons:

1. Extracted from Wikipedia (Hanuman), it indicate that Hanuman is son of Kesari and reincarnation of Lord Shiva.

2. According to the Chinese, before all deities and gods were "appointed" or "formed", this monkey already existed cultivating and practicing.

3. It is after several hundreds years and by fate & destiny that this monkey was erupted from a rock and then destined to meet with a Buddhist Monk whom is on the way to the west to obtain the Buddhist scripture and thereafter attained Buddhahood.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Hanuman is the lengendary god. It is believed than who worship God Hanuman will always be protected by evil and can accomplish literally anything in life. This god is immortal and still exists. even Barack Obama became President believing in god Hanuman. no matter which religion u follow. it doesn't matter, this God help everyone. even just his name can save your day. when all hopes is lost, life feels burden, just keeping him in mind will make a big difference.
