I am a local in Xian. At Christmas Eve, I bought some snacks and enjoyed two movies on bed. On Dec.25, I read a news report from Tencent which said that more than 300000 people went out in the center of Xian to celebrate the Christmas Day. So is the Valentines’ Day. Young Chinese buy gifts, flowers and chocolate for their lovers. Sadly, they seem to have forgotten Chinese traditional festivals. Take the Spring Festival for example, I feel that it is far less interesting than before. What’s wrong? Why do Chinese people prefer to celebrate foreign festivals?

Cherry, it's very sad to see it. The western cultures have been introduced to China but Chinese people are gradually forgetting about their own cultures and festivals.

Although Christmas in the western countries is more and more a commercial and less and less a Christian celebration it still is a Christian heritage. To other people than the Christians the Christmas is only a time to spend money and give gifts. I have nothing against other people celebrating the Christmas but I too wonder why do they do it and slowly forget their own cultural heritage. Carlos

Thanks to those smart businessmen in China, Chinese people have known many foreign festivals. Chinese people may not know the meanings of the festivals but they do know that it is cheaper to buy things during these festivals. Chinese people gradually spend foreign festivals but foreigners seldom spend Chinese festivals in their own countries. Too sad.
