There are things still free or at a minimal fee, such as beaches at Dameisha, and RMB15 for Xiaomeisha (both in Shenzhen). Beijing is a great tourist attraction, even a guide costs more than the entrance fee. At one time I was asked RMB400 for a guide from Niu Jie to Tiananmen Square, which I could easily take Metro subway for RMB2 to any one destination.

Wan, there are some attractions that are open to the public for free too, for example, parks and museums. But I am not interested in them.

Wan, they are not formal tour guides. Be careful and do not be ripped off. That's why I prefer to do some lessons before visiting a place. At least, I can avoid some travel traps.
