5A scenic areas are probably the best tourist destinations in China. Unfortunately, many ordinary Chinese people can not afford to visit the 5A scenic areas. In recent years, the ticket prices at the tourist attractions have increased too much, for example, the ticket price at Taierzhuang Ancient Town has increased from 100 to 160 rmb. What about Jiuzhaigou? CNY 220 at the peak season and CNY 80 at the low season. This doesn’t include the sight-seeing bus fare.

According to a Chinese newspaper, ticket prices at more than 50% 5A scenic areas are over CNY 100. Many Chinese tourists complain that the ticket prices are too expensive.

As a foreigner, do you think the ticket prices are expensive?

I understand that it is daydreaming if I wish all scenic spots were open for free visit. But the reasonable price should be below CNY 50.

I assume that you are not a Chinese, right? Not long ago, I took my parents to travel in Beijing and Tianjin. In all, we stayed in Beijing and Tianjin 4 days. But we spent more than CNY 4000.

The ticket prices at the tourist attractions are too expensive. They increase quickly but people's income don't. I can not afford to travel 2 times in a year.

220 RMB is about $35 USD.

That's pretty expensive even by USA standards and brutally expensive for a Chinese family wanting to introduce their children to their great and rich heritage.

Yes. Think about it. How much does it cost if a family travel together? Unfortunately, the ticket prices are still increasing no matter how the tourists complain about.

Probably maintenance and repairs are not cheap. The price imposed compensates.

GUEST13063 The prices are high because:

1. Surging demand: there are more and more visitors every year, domestic and international.

2. Maintenance and improvement costs are rising.

3. So many visitors don't pay because they are exempt or because they get free passes.

GUEST13063 and Wanhu,

That more and more people choose to travel every years is not the excuse to raise the ticket prices. It is ok for them to make money. But they have to think about how much the tourists can afford. If most tourists feel that the ticket prices are too high, the scenic areas should think it twice before increase the ticket prices.

Perhaps the maintenance and improvement costs are rising. But I’d like to see the scenic areas publicize how they use the money to maintain and improve themselves. Otherwise, I won’t believe that they put all money into maintain and improve themselves.

In fact, most visitors pay for their visits. Only some people enjoy the preferential policies or free passes.
