Wan,

It's really good news. The students who study rare foreign languages can easily find good jobs with good payments.

From my observation they are gifted persons because they could really pronounce certain words which the general Chinese can't, very well. When the academicians from one public university in Malaysia headed by its Vice Chancellor (President) visited BFSU in October 2010, a student welcomed us in Malay language. What surprised me, she spoke in good standard Malaysian language.

Wan,

In China, there are fewer boys in foreign language colleges. Those boys who study rare foreign languages can easily find a job and get high salaries. My high school classmate studied French in college. After graduation, he went to Africa. His annual income is above RMB 100000. I guess that he earns much more now.

Yes, it is true. When the fruit is scarcest, its taste is sweetest.

Like Wanhu said, you can be a philosopher. My friend teaches me a good lesson: Do not let your children study the most popular majors in college. The more classmates he/she has, the fiercer competition she will have after graduation.

The least popular major is also a high risk, Jimmy, landing with no job. There are two main majors whether they have stiff competitions or otherwise but still have good job opportunity, e.g. English and medicine.

English? Fewer people can be elites and do simultaneous translation. Many graduates who major in English just do ordinary jobs.

Impromptu translation is gifted Jimmy, not any English graduate major able to perform. They can also teach English in schools and colleges.

Wan, college graduates can not teach English in college. Many colleges have high requirements on their teachers' degrees. Currently, postgraduates who major in English might still have a chance to enter private colleges. The public universities now just need doctors.
