Good news for all of you - Foreign visitors to Beijing, the capital of China, may no longer need to apply for a visa if they will stay there for less than 72 hours.

Shanghai released 48 hours visa free policy to passport holders from 30 countries. And for Hainan, group toursits from 26 countries can stay there for 3 weeks without a visa.

Similarly, in order to attract more tourists, Beijing Public Security Bureau is considering issuing a 3-day visa free policy for foreign passport holders.

I think it's meant for transit travellers. If they want to stay longer, they need to apply Chinese Visa.

Yes, I agree. During this 3-day transit, they may go out of the airport to see as much as they can in Beijing.
I tried to visit both Beijing and Tianjin from Xian within 3 days.

Hi, I have not yet travelled to China. It is on my itinerary for 2013. However I came across this blog post which I have book marked because it may be useful. It's about Visa applications for China and the blogger is more than willing to answer any travel /visa questions. I hope this helps.

Hi all,

Here is the latest news: from Jan 1st 2013, people from 45 countries can get a stay of 72 hours in Beijing without visa. Please note that the it is for international flight transit passengers only, they should book flight ticket in advance and show the immigration officers the valid visa to the destination country. That means the departure place and the destination can not be the same country, eg. trip like Bangkok-Beijing-Bangkok is not acceptable to be granted such exemption.

GUEST16843 I have a question about the use of transit(visa):

I am from Germany.
After a round-trip in some other countries I want fly from Hanoi to Beijing, transit/stay one day and fly to Tokio. After about 10 days I want to return to Beijing, transit/ stay for one more day and take my plane back to Germany.
Is this possible or are there any kind of restrictions about the amount of transits used in a certain period of time?

Thank you in advance
