Chinese Muslim = Iranian Muslim? From what I am being informed there are Muslims in the northwest of China who are under the influence of Persian. My previous post was about the ten minority Muslims in China. Some of the Persians (Iranians) migrated to China during Tang when the Muslims captured Persia, and Oeroz III (Fi Lu Si 卑路斯) migrated to China. Perhaps you may provide some inroads? Thanks. Wan |

![]() | I don't know where Chinese muslim are from. But they are devoted to their religion. A colleague's mom is over 50 years old. She can't speak Arab or any other foreign language. Last year, she finished her pilgramage trip to Makkch together with several other women. My colleague told me that her mom's biggest wish was to come to Makkch once when she was alive. She finally made her dream come true. |

![]() | Most Chinese Muslims are in the northwest, especially in Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai and (some) in Shaanxi provinces. Also Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Others are scattered in Shandong, Henan, Yunnan, etc. Most lamian shop owners are Muslims, and known as Lanzhou lamian although of them are not really from Lanzhou. Now I'm looking into Tajik ethnic and its Ismaili sect, under the guidance of its great leader, Aga Khan. Wan |

![]() | Iranians and Iraqis migrated to the northern parts of China during Tang dynasy. Then, I guess, spreaded to the south. The minorty is the called HUI, the second largest ethnic group to Han. In my homecity, there are lots of them, most of time u cannot tell. However, sometimes u still can tell via eyes, hairs and noses... |

![]() | Iraqis? Emerald, maybe you mean the Arabs that used Bsrah and Siraf as their ports embarkation via the sea routes, which is known as the second "silk road." The first silk road is through Tashkorgan to Kashgar in Xinjiang. I can almost tell the difference between the Uyghur and the Han but not the Hui and the Han. I am trying to find info for my article on the ten Muslim minority ethnics in China but I found more questions instead of answers. Wan |

![]() | Dear Sunnydream, most of them only claimed without tangible proof. In Taiwan, there is no Hui, only Han (including Muslim Han) and some handful of the aborigines. I agree with you, in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, they don't resemble the Arabs at all. They look Chinese, speak Chinese and practise Chinese culture. In Yunnan they have some Islamic schools where they learn Arabic language as well as how to do libai especially in Shadian and Yuxi. From my observation in Yuxi, when a Han embraced Islam he/she becomes a Hui. Wan |

![]() | "From my observation in Yuxi, when a Han embraced Islam he/she becomes a Hui." Wan, I did some searched on the internet. Hui people only can marry Hui people. However, Hui males can marry Muslim girls as well as girls of other nationalities. However, Hui girls are limited to marry non-Muslims or people of other nationalities who believe in Islam. Today, many Hui parents become open. They allow their daughters to marry non-Muslims. People of other nationalities can marry Hui people but have to turn themselves to Muslims and abide by the related doctrines. For example, if a Han boy marries a Hui girl. He must turn himself to a Muslim. Thus, he can’t eat pork. Some kind Hui girls allow their non-Muslim husbands to eat pork outside. At home, pork is still a taboo. Well, I think it is very difficult to sustain such a marriage. I dare not to give it a try. |

Their beef is a bit expensive than those sold in the supermarket. |
