I have planned to go to China both in November and December. For November, as it;s only 6 days, I will stay around Shenzhen and Guangzhou. In December, I will be in China Dec 14-31 but how unfortunate, my usual "guide" has many classes to teach as well as to prepare for students' final exam and will only be free after Dec 22nd. Then she needs to submit her passport to the Registrar of the university for visa renewal as her working visa will expire in early January 2014.

Wan,

I think you should visit as many northern cities as you can. Then you will know that northern cities are totally different from these southern cities. You will have deep understanding of what I said if you go to some northwest cities.

I have been to Kashgar and Urumqi, then Lanzhou, Xi'an, Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, that's all. Other cities are Beijing and Tianjin. Mostly I would visit only southern of China, especially cities in Guangdong Province.

Next year, I'm planning to visit a few libraries. Could you advise me which libraries are good to be visited? Under the advisory and consultancy, the director used to ask me for her and her subordinates tovisit libraries in China.

I am really sorry that I can't provide you much info about the libraries. Except for the National Library of China, those libraries in the universities are worth a visit, I think.
