A guide may show the best way to reach one's destination besides GPS.

I see. But you should hire an experienced guide rather than a graduate or college student. A graduate or college student might be incompetent to work for you.

Correct. But young graduates are earger to learn and correct mistakes where applicable. They should start from somewhere in order to gain experience. How could they gain experience when no one gives them a chance? While the so-called experienced guides have the tendency of creating excuses when they make mistake(s).

As you may understand, I would use the same guide if needed because my poor listening skills and his/her inability to follow my poor English pronunciation. With the familiar guide perhaps he may understand my line of thought and reciprocally I would also be familiar with his accent.

Beijing is cold and dry but with dirty air and I started to have cough. I will fly back to Shenzhen early tomorrow morning at 0715 with a transit.

Wan, it's like having your hair cut at the barber shop. Last time I went to a barber shop to have my hair cut and dyed. The girl who washed my hair was a green hand. She made the water flow into my ears. I was angry at first but I controlled my temper after she kept saying "Sorry". When I had my hair cut, I asked her who was the best hairdresser and then I asked him to cut my hair.

You know, the more experienced the hairdresser is, the more money he charges. An ordinary hairdresser charges 30 RMB but the best one charged me 50 RMB for cutting my hair. But he did cut my hair very well.

Did the smog visit Beijing when you were there? Better wear a mask to protect your health.

I stayed at both districts of Chaoyang and Xicheng. I visited a few areas in Beijing, it was my 5th time in Beijing. Now I'm already back in Shenzhen then to Guangzhou where the weather is not so cold. Only about 9-13 Celsius. I will fly back to Malaysia from Shenzhen on Jan 6th. My cough is getting better with coughdrops I bought in Hong Kong.

According to the weather forecast, the smog will come back to Xian again. I think I should buy more masks. Last time the smog came, all drugstores ran out of masks......

Just a reminder. Don't be scared and remember to bring a mask.

Both. If the air pollution was too bad, a gas mask would be better. If it wasn't as bad as you thought, a face mask would be ok. Today, the sky was grey. The PM 2.5 index is 163, moderate pollution.
