You are right, BBQQ. But some individuals like graffiti very much. Maybe they want to show their individualities.

There is some artful graffiti, but usually it does look as good as the property it defaces.

Not all the graffiti are related to crimes and violence. Using graffiti to pubilize Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is quite creative.

GUEST24859 At first, i think Graffiti changes and you can`t consider it from only one side, it`s not only to mark the area you live, like gangs do it.It is an form of expression. An expression of a youth, growing up in a time of commercialisation and decline in values.Ownership and conformance is more important than humanity and individuality. And any generation had it`s way of rebillion. Graffiti is one way to rebel against the existing norms.

Furthermore every new form of art had problems with acceptation in society.Today you pay a lot of money to visit a museum, which art was forbidden 100 jears ago. The discussion if Graffiti is art is well known. Who fix the guidelines what is art and what not? I think Graffiti is art. Is it a beautiful art, for the huge mass probably not. But that`s a matter of taste. In my opinion the obtrusive advertising and pseudo modern architecture with blinding colors are defacing, but its a question of taste.

Graffiti has been with us for thousands of years. It’s been found on some of the buildings in Pompey.
I think some of it is very clever and some of it does show some extremely good artistic skill level.
My problem with it is simply that the “artist” does not own the wall or the bus or train that their work of expression is painted on.
Graffiti your own but leave mine alone please. Yes I have been visited by people who wish to “express them self’s”

Mt. Rushmore is an early example of American graffiti - even though it is pretty remarkable.

Dodger, you have been "disturbed" by some "artists"? May I know what they painted on your wall? I just saw them painting on the walls of deserted bulidings! That is a good way. However, no one will go there to see their "masterpiece". That's why they choose to make Graffiti in cities.

Although I agree that some graffiti are ugly, I think those Beijing graffiti are nicely done. I like them.

BBQQ,
Some artists decided that my garage doors needed “their expression “ on them.
It cost me time any money to have their “expressions” removed.
I don’t have a problem with people expressing them self’s. Just get a job, save your money, buy a wall and then paint it.

GUEST23839 I think that´s a problem. That Graffiti often hurt the hard working people, who don´t care two figs about that. But maybe the "Artists" would be more accepted in what they`re doing, respectively provided, (e.g. allowed walls and projekts offered) they could canalise their creative energy in an art, which disturbs nobody.
