Mostly those school leavers (after five years of secondary schools) while waiting for their major examination results will be called for the training, usually for 3 months. The government will provide dormitories, training, food and pocket money. Those selected need to attend the training.

Ok, what if those selected students earn good results in their examinations? Will they be enrolled to the army or continue to study in school?

If they got good results, they may apply for university-college for Diploma level of study. The army they have their own college called Royal Military College, to be groomed as officers.

In China, we have military colleges too. high school students can apply for military colleges when they fill the college application. If their scores and physical conditions are ok, they can be enrolled to the military collleges. After four years' study, they will be assigned to the army with miltary rank. Usually, the graduate from military colleges are assigned as Deputy Company Commanders.

Some people don't go to colleges but join the army directly. If they perform very well in the army, they will have a chance to enter the military colleges for study too.

Usually the students, with excellent results in their lower secondary examination (i.e. three years in secondary school) will be selected ti undergo the training. After two years of training, like any other students, they need to sit for the Malaysia Certificate of Education (MCE) examination, and so far they passed in flying colours (100%). They will undergo certain selected universities for their tertiary education. They are groomed to be officers and not recruits.

For civilians, they may apply for the vacancies in army (or police) base on posts and qualifications. With MCE qualification they will become recruits and need to undergo six months of basic training (for the police three months). Those with bachelor degree, in the army they may apply for a post of captain, while in police as an ASP.

Wan,

Civilians who join the army have a chance to do in MCE, right? I sense that military system in China and Malaysia share something in common.
