It's not easy to learn foreign languages. Travelling sometimes does help. Although I can't speak Chinese (Putonghua) but I could understand some words.

Yes, traveling is helpful. However, traveling abroad is expensive to me. I can burden the cost for traveling to some Asian countries, for example, Thailand, Nepal and India. Unfortunately, they don't speak English.

Yes, it's difficult for me to understand what they say. And the local British accent is also annoying.

Annoying? Haha. Or is it hard to follow? Through my contacts, most Chinese are accustomed to American pronunciation as well as being exposed to American movies. Most Malaysian TESL students, if they study abroad they would either go to UK or Australia. Many of them study locally.

The late Prof Dr VB Torrance, who used to teach me research methodology in 2003 said, if you can't use good English to write your theses and dissertations, in Malaysia you find Indians as most of them them use excellent English.
